The International Moot Competition aims in bringing together the students Advocate across the world, it will duly connect Law Students across different continent of the world. This International Moot Competition will be the first of its kind in the history of ALSA. . The renowned Sarah F. Kpodo International Law Moot Court Competition, which is centered in Africa, will brings together law schools and aspiring attorneys from all over the world. A fictitious international issue as it might appear in court before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and any other forum is simulated in this competition. Schools, legal companies, and teams should use this opportunity for the following reasons:    

 1. Networking: The competition gives law students a chance to connect with professors, other students, and international legal professionals. This may result in fresh chances, internships, and employment offers.   

2. Cultural Diversity: countries will send representatives to the competition, giving pupils a rare chance to learn about various cultures and legal systems.

MESSAGE FROM THE ALSA INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT

Dear esteemed guests, members of the African Law Students’ Association ( ALSA ), and fellow law students, It is an honor to address you today as the International President of the African Law Students’ Association. I am here to speak about the biggest project ever done by the Association and the largest Moot Court Competition in Africa, called The Sarah Fafa Kpodo International Moot Court Competition ( SFK International Moot Court Competition). This competition is open to all law schools and teams in Africa and beyond, and focuses on International Laws and it relevance on how to shape this current World. The competition is a testament to the Association’s commitment to promoting legal education and advocacy excellence in Africa and at the International level. It is also a platform for the exchange of ideas, the forging of lasting connections, and the cultivation of skills that will shape the future of international law and law students in Africa and beyond.   The Sarah Fafa Kpodo International Moot Court Competition is a celebration of diversity. This will bring students together from different backgrounds, cultures, and legal systems to engage in a friendly competition that fosters mutual respect and understanding. The competition will provide a unique opportunity for students to learn from each other, to appreciate the richness of cultural diversity, and to develop the skills necessary to navigate the complexities of international law.   The competition is also an excellent opportunity for students to prepare for advocacy and other relevant areas. The competition provides a platform for students to hone their research, writing, and oral advocacy skills. It also provides students with the opportunity to work collaboratively, to develop leadership skills, and to build networks that will serve them well throughout their careers. In conclusion, I would like to thank the African Law Students’ Association for an amazing and wonderful competition and for providing students with the opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue and exchange of ideas. I would also like to encourage law schools in Africa and beyond as well as teams to take the advantage to be part of this competition. I understand that, this project comes with hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence but together we can make a change in our society and unify the voice of law students in Africa and beyond. Visibility for Emerging Law Schools: Provide a platform for emerging law schools to showcase their academic prowess and establish themselves on the global legal education map.   

International Law Advocacy: Encourage the exploration and discussion of legal issues that impact international laws, promoting a commitment to justice and social responsibility among participants.   

Interdisciplinary Engagement: Facilitate interdisciplinary engagement by encouraging collaboration between law and other fields, recognizing the interconnected nature of legal issues.   

Legacy of Excellence: Establish the Sarah Fafa International Moot Court Competition as a recurring event known for its commitment to academic excellence, professional development, and the celebration of legal talent in Africa and beyond.    

The Sarah F.Kpodo International Moot Court Competition is one of the most promising and dreams to be one of the largest moot court competitions in the world. The qualifications for participation technically include the following criteria:

Law School Affiliation: Participants must be enrolled in a law school or a program that is recognized or accredited by the relevant legal authorities in their country. 

Team Composition: Teams will consist of law students, typically between two and four members including a coach. Some variations in team composition may exist based on national rules and decision of national organizers. 

Academic Level: Participants are usually required to be full-time law students pursuing their first law degree (LLB or JD) or it equivalent . Some jurisdictions may have specific rules regarding the academic level of participants. 

Moot Eligibility: Teams will often required to have not participated in a previous Sarah F. Kpodo International Moot Court competition during the same academic year, since this is the first ever one, every body qualifies to be one.   

National Qualification: The national is where teams will compete to qualify for the international campionship rounds. Winning or performing well in these qualifying rounds is a prerequisite for participation in the international competition. 

Language Proficiency: The competition will be conducted in English, so participants are generally required to have a good command of the English language. However, the Sarah F. Kpodo International Moot Court Competition intends to add other official languages as stipulated in African Law Students’ Association International Constitution.   

Student Status: Participants are usually required to be full-time students at the time of their participation in the competition. 

Subject Matter Familiarity: Competitors are expected to have a strong understanding of international law and the specific issues raised in the Sarah F. Kpodo International Moot Court Competition maiden edition 2024. 

Faculty Advisor: Teams may be required to have a faculty advisor or coach, usually a legal academic associated with their law school, who provides guidance and support to the team.   It is important to note that the specific eligibility criteria can vary slightly based on national rules and guidelines. Teams interested in participating in the Sarah F. Kpodo International Moot Court competition should carefully review the official rules and guidelines provided by the African Law Students Association and the relevant national chapter organizing body.
