CURRENCY REGULATIONS, 1974 (LI 984).

 

IN exercise of the powers conferred on the Commissioner responsible for Finance by sections 23 and 26 of the Currency Act, 1964 (Act 242) these Regulations are made this 4th day of October, 1974.

Regulation 1—Importation of Ghana Currency Notes.

(1) Any traveller may import, on his person or in the baggage which belongs to and accompanies him, Ghana currency notes of a total value not exceeding ¢20.00 if the amount is declared and endorsement made in passport or special Bank of Ghana Form held by the traveller at the time of disembarkation in Ghana.

(2) No person shall import Ghana currency notes of a total value exceeding ¢20.00.

Regulation 2—Exportation of Ghana Currency Notes.

(1) Any traveller may export, on his person or in the baggage which belongs to and accompanies him, Ghana currency notes of a  total value not exceeding ¢20.00 if the amount is declared and endorsement made in the passport or special Bank of Ghana Form held by the traveller at the time of embarkation in Ghana.

(2) No person shall export Ghana currency notes of a total value exceeding ¢20.00 unless the Bank of Ghana has consented to their export.

Regulation 3 — Importation of C.F.A Francs.

C.F.A. francs may be imported into Ghana provided that the person who imports them declares them at the port of disembarkation and exchanges them for Ghana currency notes only through the Bank of Ghana or an authorised dealer.

Regulation 4 — Exportation of Currency Notes.

(1) Any traveller may export, on his person or in the baggage which belongs to and accompanies him, external currency notes of a total value not exceeding ¢100.00, and of a value not exceeding ¢20.00 in the case of any one currency:

Provided that a traveller who is not a Ghana resident may export, on his person or in the baggage which belongs to and accompanies him, external currency notes or external currency drafts which were previously imported by him.

(2) For the purposes of this regulation

(a) the value of external currency notes shall be calculated at the rate at which they could be sold by an authorised dealer at the time in question;

(b) "traveller" shall not include a person employed on any ship, aircraft or vehicle leaving Ghana.

Regulation 5 — Interpretation.

In these Regulations, "currency", "external currency", and "external currency draft" have the meanings respectively assigned to them by section 37 of the Exchange Control Act, 1961 (Act 71).

Regulation 6 — Revocation.

The following instruments are hereby revoked:—

Currency (Prohibition of Exportation of Notes) Instrument, 1964 (L.I. 374).

Currency (Conditions of Importation and Exportation of Currency Notes) Instrument, 1965 (L.I. 486).
