In exercise of the powers
conferred on the Secretary
responsible for Trade by
subsection (3) of section 14 of
the Weights and Measures Decree,
1975 (N.R.C.D.326) these
Regulations are hereby made this
12th day of May, 1986.
Regulation 1—Verification of
Standards.
The Custodian of Weights and
Measures shall —
(a) compare and verify the
Secondary, Tertiary and Working
Standards at such intervals and in
such manner as the Secretary may
determine;
(b) on being satisfied with the
accuracy of the Secondary,
Tertiary or Working Standards, as
the case may be, issue
certificates of verifications and
such certificates shall be
retained by the persons who have
custody of the relevant standards;
(c) ensure that all Secondary,
Tertiary and Working Standards
which have been duly verified and
certified shall for all purposes
be conclusively deemed to be true
and accurate and judicial notice
shall be taken of every such
standard;
(d) be the final authority to
determine the accuracy and
justness of weights and measures
and measuring instruments; and
(e) undertake such other duties as
may from time to time be assigned
to him by the Secretary.
Regulation 2—Control of Standards.
The Primary and Secondary
Standards shall be kept under the
control of the Custodian of
Weights and Measures in such
place, and he shall ensure their
security in such manner, as the
Secretary may determine.
Regulation 3—Custodian to Advise
Secretary.
The Custodian of Weights and
Measures shall offer such advice
as the Secretary may require—
(a) on the appointment of suitable
persons to take custody of and
keep safely the Tertiary
Standards;
(b) on the measurement standards
and specifications of National
Standards or of weights and
measures.
Regulation 4—Commencement.
These Regulations shall be deemed
to have come into force on the
22nd day of July, 1985.
