        DESCRIPTION OF THE AREA OF THE BIRIM FOREST RESERVE, AKIM-KOTOKU PORTION       

 

 Commencing on the bank of the Birim River at the Junction of the Subri River and Birim River at a pillar marked G.C.S.C.P. 825; thence upstream  along the left bank of the Birim River for a distance of approximately 456 chains to a pillar marked G.C.S.C.P. 830; thence a cut line on a bearing of 163 degrees 45 minutes for a distance of 8 chains to G.C.S.C.P. 832; thence by a cut line on a bearing of 176 degrees 45 minutes for 36 chains to G.C.S.C.P. 827; thence by a cut line on a bearing of 143 degrees 40 minutes for 48 chains through F.R.B.P. 49 to F.R.B.P. 50; thence by a cut line on a bearing of 159 degrees 45 minutes  for 21 chains to F.R.B.P. 51; thence by a cut line on a bearing of 145 degrees 40 minutes for 26.5 chains to G.C.S.C.P. 833; thence by a cut line on a bearing of 91 degrees 45 minutes for 3 chains to G.C.S.C.P. 834; thence by a cut line on a bearing of 185 degrees 35 minutes for 4 chains to G.C.S.C.P. 835; thence by a cut line on a bearing of  146 degrees 35 minutes for 20 chains to F.R.B.P. 52; thence by a cut line on a bearing of 154 degrees 20 minutes for 25 chains to F.R.B.P. 53; thence by a cut line on a bearing of 121 degrees 40 minutes for 10 chains to G.C.S.C.P. 836; thence by a cut line on a bearing of 217 degrees 20 minutes for 5.5 chains to G.C.S.C.P. 838; thence by a cut line on a bearing of  181 degrees 25 minutes for 9.5 chains which point is on the Eastern Boundary of the Birim Forest Reserve; thence following the Akim-Kotoku/Akim-Abuakwa  boundary, a cut line in a general Westerly direction; for 260.5 chains to reach the Subri River at Entribunso; thence following the left bank of the Subri River downstream for approximately 150 chains to F.R.B.P. 47 and thence continuing along the left bank for approximately 15 chains to G.C.S.C.P. 825 the point of commencement.

All distances are more or less and all bearings are approximate and refer to True North.

SECOND SCHEDULE

COMMUNAL RIGHTS

Hunting and Fishing. Unrestricted except that no steel traps are to be used or streams dammed.    Stool subjects of Edubia.  

Collection of Honey and wild fruits. Unrestricted but no trees to be cut down.   do.      

Collection of following Minor Forest Produce:—

Canes, Tie tie, Sponges,

Chewing Sticks, Firewood, Tawaser (for making pipes).            Under free Permit and for personal use only.            do.      

Access to existing bush paths.        Unrestricted.  do.      

Access to the fetish Penyina.          Unrestricted.  do.      

Access to and if required  rebuilding of the hunters camps at Dompoaso and Kwabena Enin.            Unrestricted but no farming to take place and no increase in building.  do.      

Taungya Farming.     Subject to proper control by the Forestry Department and agreement by the people to abide by the Rules governing such farming.          do.      

Use of Sand and Stone for building.           Unrestricted, provided Streams not diverted or damage done to Forest Produce.        do.      

Timber felling.            Restricted to those trees considered suitable by the Forestry Department.      do.      

Diamond digging.     Under Permit by the Forestry Department for clearing and subject to any restrictions imposed by the Permit.        do.

STOOL RIGHTS ADMITTED

The Paramount Stool of Akim Kotoku and the Stool of Edubia.  Akim Kotoku Stool lands within the Reserve.            Rights to such revenue from the sale of timber or minerals found as may be decided by the Birim Rural Council and Stools concerned.
