ACT OF THE PARLIAMENT OF THE
REPUBLIC OF GHANA ENTITLED
THE ELECTRICITY (SPECIAL LEVIES)
ACT, 1995
AN ACT to impose special levies
towards rural electrification and
lighting of public places.
DATE OF ASSENT: 2ND FEBRUARY, 1995
BE IT ENACTED by Parliament as
follows—
Section 1—Imposition of Levy for
Rural Electrification.
There is imposed by this Act a
special levy of ¢1.70 kwh payable
by all consumers of electricity in
Ghana as an additional charge
towards the cost of rural
electrification.
Section 2—Levy for Public
Lighting.
There is imposed by this Act a
special levy of ¢0.5 kwh payable
by all consumers of electricity in
Ghana as an additional charge
towards the provision of lights on
streets, roads and similar public
places.
Section 3—Payment.
(1) The levies payable under this
Act shall be collected by the
Electricity Corporation of Ghana
and the Volta River Authority
together with the regular charges
for electricity consumption.
(2) The levies shall be paid into
such public account as the
Controller and Accountant General
shall determine.
Section 4—Revocation.
Paragraph 2 of the Electricity
Corporation of Ghana (Power
Tariff) (Amendment) Regulations
1994 (L.I. 1595) is revoked.
