Between 13th January, 1972 and
13th January, 1973.

4. Commencement.
IN pursuance of the National
Redemption Council (Establishment)
Proclamation, 1972 this Decree is
hereby made:
Section 1—Indemnity for Acts in
Connection with the Change of
Government.
No Court shall entertain any
action whatsoever or take any
decision or make any order or
grant any remedy or relief
whatsoever, in any proceeding
instituted against—
(a) the Republic; or
(b) the National Redemption
Council or the Executive Council;
or
(c) any person acting under the
authority of either such Council
on or after the commencement of
this Decree; or
(d) any member of the Armed Forces
or the Police Service; or
(e) any person acting under the
authority of the
Commander-in-Chief or the
Inspector-General of Police or in
the course of his military or
police duties on or after the
commencement of this Decree; or
(f) any person or persons acting
in concert or individually to
assist or bring about the change
in government which took place on
the 13th day of January, 1972,
in respect of any act or omission
in connection with or consequent
upon—
(i)
the overthrow of the government in
power before the establishment of
the National Redemption Council,
or
(ii) the suspension of the
Constitution which was in force
immediately before the
establishment of the said Council;
or
(iii) the establishment of the
National Redemption Council or the
Executive Council; or
(iv) the arrest, detention, or
disposal of the property of
Ministers, Ministerial Secretaries
and party activists of the
government in power before the
establishment of the National
Redemption Council.
Section 2—Indemity for Acts done
under Decree Etc.
No Court shall entertain any
action in any civil proceedings
against the Republic, the National
Redemption Council, the Executive
Council, any member of the Armed
Forces or of the Police Service,
or any other person, in respect of
any act or omission done or
purported to be done in good faith
in pursuance of any Decree of the
National Redemption Council or any
other enactment.
Section 2A—Indemnity for Acts Done
Between 13th January, 1972 and
13th January, 1973.
Notwithstanding any other
provision of this Decree, no
action or proceeding shall be
brought or proceeded with against
the Republic, the National
Redemption Council, the Executive
Council, any member of the Armed
Forces or of the Police Force in
respect of any act or omission
which is alleged to have been done
or purported to have been done by
any member or the Armed Forces or
of the Police Force during the
period commencing on the 13th of
January, 1972 and ending with the
13th of January, 1973.[As inserted

Section 3—Repeal.
The National Redemption Council
(Indemnity) Decree, 1972 (N.R.C.D.
13) is hereby repealed.
Section 4—Commencement.
This Decree shall be deemed to
have come into force on the 13th
day of January, 1972.
