IN exercise of the powers
conferred on the Minister for
Employment and Social Welfare by
subsection (2)(g) of section 72 of
the Labour Decree, 1967 (N.L.C.D,
1507) these Regulations are made
this 14th day of July, 1999.
Regulation 1—Minimum Wage
(1) Notwithstanding the provisions
of the Labour Regulations, 1967 (L.I.
632)[sic] the minimum wage rate
per day of a worker in Ghana shall
be two thousand and nine hundred
cedis.
(2) The minimum wage shall be
exclusive of any allowance.
Regulation 2—Exemption from
Application of Minimum Wage
The minimum wage specified under
regulation 1 of these Regulations
shall not apply to—
(a) any person who works less
than an average of twenty seven
hours a week;
(b) piece workers;
(c) share croppers;
(d) sea-going personnel in the
fishing industry who are not wage
earners; and
(c) apprentices.
Regulation 3—Interpretation
In these Regulations unless the
context otherwise requires—
"apprentice" means a person who
has entered into a contract in
writing with an employer for a
specified period not exceeding
five years to learn and be taught
a trade;
"piece worker" means a person paid
according to the amount of work
produced;
“share cropper" means tenant
farmer who gives part of his crop
as rent to his landlord.
Regulation 4—Revocation
The Minimum Wage Regulations, 1995
(L.I. 1610) are hereby revoked.
