PUBLIC ELECTIONS (PARLIAMENT) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1992 (LI 1544)

 

IN exercise of the powers conferred on the Interim National Electoral Commission by paragraph (b) of subsection (1) of section 10 of the Interim National Electoral Commission Law, 1992 (P.N.D.C.L. 271) this Regulation is made this 26th day of October, 1992.

Regulation 1—L.I. 1537 Amended.

The Public Elections (Parliament) Regulations, 1992 (L.I. 1537) are hereby amended—

(a) by the substitution for regulation 6 of the following:

"6. List of Nominated Candidates and Withdrawal by Candidates.

(1) Nomination of all candidates shall be submitted and concluded by close of nomination day, and a list of the nominated candidates as at close of nomination day shall be prepared and signed by the returning officer of the constituency.

(2) A person whose name appears on the nomination list as standing nominated may, within normal working hours of the Commission, on any day after the nomination day and before the day of the election, in writing withdraw his candidature".

(b) by the substitution for regulation 8 of the following:

"8. Unopposed Candidate.

Where at the expiration of the time allowed for the delivery of nomination papers and on the day before the election only one candidate is nominated, there shall be no election and the candidate shall be declared elected."
