AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE LAW WITH RESPECT TO QUARANTINE.

Date of Commencement: 2nd March, 1915.

Section 1—Short Title and Application.

This Ordinance may be cited as the "Quarantine Ordinance," and shall apply to the Gold Coast. (Amended by 12 of 1938, s.3.)

Section 2—Interpretation.

In this Ordinance, unless the context otherwise requires—

"Minister" means the Minister responsible for Health.

Section 3—Declaration of Place as Infected.

Where a place is an infected place within the meaning of any regulations which are now or may from time to time be in force under the provisions of this Ordinance, the Minister may by order declare such place to be an infected place. (Amended by 27 of 1932, s.6.)

Section 4—Regulations.

(1)(a) The Minister may from time to time make regulations for the purpose of preventing the introduction of disease into the Gold Coast, or any part thereof, from an infected place, or for the purpose of preventing the transmission of disease from the Gold Coast into any other country or Colony.

(b) All regulations made under this section shall apply to the whole of the Gold Coast or to such part thereof as shall be mentioned in such regulations.

(2) Such regulations may prescribe the person by whom the expenses of carrying out any regulation or order made under this Ordinance shall be borne and paid and the persons from whom any such expenses incurred or charged by the Government may be recovered.

Section 5—Appointment of Officers.

The Minister may from time to time by writing under his hand appoint such fit and proper persons to be officers as may be necessary to enforce and carry out the provisions of this Ordinance.

Section 6—Appointment of Sanitary Stations, Anchorages, etc.

The Minister may from time to time provide such sanitary stations, buildings, and equipment, and by order appoint such sanitary anchorages as he may think necessary for the purposes of this Ordinance.

Section 7—Penalties.

Any person who shall contravene any regulation or order made under the authority of this Ordinance shall be guilty of an offence against this Ordinance, and on conviction thereof shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding one hundred pounds or to imprisonment with or without hard labour for a term not exceeding six months.

Section 8—Legal Proceedings.

Proceedings for recovering any penalty or imposing any term of imprisonment for the breach of or for recovering any expenses incurred or charged by the Government in carrying out any regulation or order made under this Ordinance may be commenced before and determined by any Magistrate.  (Amended by 13 of 1935, s.3.)
