REPRESENTATION OF THE PEOPLE (REGISTRATION OF VOTERS) REGULATIONS, 1980 (CI 12)

ARRANGEMENT OF REGULATIONS

IN exercise of the powers conferred on the Electoral Commissioner by Article 38 of the Constitution these Regulations are made this 7th day of July, 1980.

Regulation 1—Persons Qualified to be Registered as Voters.

Any citizen of Ghana who is not less than eighteen years of age and is of sound mind shall be entitled to be registered as a voter for the purposes of public elections and referenda.

Regulation 2—Replacement of Voters Registers.

(1) Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in any enactment where in the opinion of the Electoral Commissioner it is necessary in the public interest so to do he shall by notice published in the Gazette cause the Register of Voters for each constituency to be replaced by a new Register. 

(2) For the purpose of the replacement of the Register of Voters for each constituency any person who is qualified under Regulation 1 of  these Regulations to be registered as a voter shall be entitled to be registered as a voter.

Regulation 3—Existing Enactments to Apply with Modifications.

Any enactments relating to the registration of voters existing immediately before the coming into force of these Regulations shall, subject to such modifications as the Electoral Commissioner may consider necessary to give effect to these Regulations, be deemed to be Regulations made under Article 38 of the Constitution.
