           WILDLIFE  RESERVES REGULATIONS, 1971 (LI 710).

 

IN exercise of the powers conferred on the President by section 11 of the Wild Animals Preservation Act, 1961 (Act 43), these Regulations are hereby made this 20th day of September, 1971.

Regulation 1—Establishment of Reserves.

The areas of land the situations and limits of which are specified in the Schedule to these Regulations are hereby established as Reserves, and shall be designated by the following names—

(a) Mole National Park;

(b) Digya National Park;

(c) Bui National Park;

(d) Shai Hills Game Production Reserve;

(e) Kogyae Strict Nature Reserve;

(f) Owabi Wildlife Sanctuary.

Regulation 2—Entry to be Authorised.

No person shall at any time —

(a) enter a Reserve except with the consent of the Chief Game and Wildlife Officer and subject to such conditions as he may determine;

(b) contravene any condition subject to which he has been permitted to enter a Reserve.

Regulation 3—Protection of Animal and Plant Life.

No person shall at any time —

(a) hunt, capture or destroy any animal or collect or destroy any plant within a Reserve, except with the written consent of the Chief Game and Wildlife Officer which shall only be given for Conservation and Management purposes;

(b) bring into a Reserve any equipment or apparatus which may be used to hunt, capture or destroy any animal;

(c) take any animal or plant out of a Reserve without the written consent of the Chief Game and Wildlife Officer.

(2)  A Game Officer  may seize and confiscate any equipment or apparatus brought into a Reserve which is in the opinion of the Game Officer capable of being used to hunt, capture or destroy any animal, and such equipment or apparatus may be disposed of in such manner as the Chief Game and Wildlife Officer thinks fit.

Regulation 4—Protection of Amenities.

No person shall at any time —

(a) light any fire within a Reserve;

(b) pollute any water within a Reserve;

(c) abandon any litter or unwanted articles within a Reserve.

(d) without the written consent of the Chief Game and Wildlife Officer, clear or cultivate any area within a Reserve.

Regulation 5—Offences.

Any person who contravenes any provision of regulations 2 to 4 shall be guilty of an offence and liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding N¢200.00 or to imprisonment not exceeding six months or to both.

Regulation 6—Interpretation.

"Plant" includes any form of vegetable life;

"Reserve" includes a National Park, Game Production Reserve, Strict Nature Reserve and Wildlife Sanctuary.

Regulation 7—Revocation.

The Wild Animals Preservation (Game Reserves) Regulations, 1962 (L.I. 171) are hereby revoked.

MOLE NATIONAL PARK

BOUNDARY DESCRIPTION

POSITION AND SIZE

The Mole National Park lies between latitudes 9° 12' and 10° 13' north and longitudes 1° 22' and 2°13'. It is bounded on the south by the main road from Damongo to Sawla and on the north by the Kulpawn River. It has an approximate area of 1,896 square miles.

Commencing from Mile 52 one mile from Larabanga village on the Damongo-Sawla Road for a distance of 25 miles to Mile 77 one mile from Grupe village. Thence on a bearing of 358° for a distance of 5,300' B.P. 3.

On a bearing of 301° 30' for a distance of 23,220' to B.P. 9

On a bearing of 347° for a distance of 25,000' to B.P. 23.

All that piece or parcel of land situated on the western shore of the Volta Lake commencing from the confluence of River Obosum and Nsoja thence by a cut line on a bearing of 287° 30' (true bearing) for a distance of 173 chains (11,418 ft.) to Boundary Pillar 5, passing through Boundary Pillars 2 to 4, thence by a cut line on a bearing of 319° 30' for a distance of 36 chains (2,376 ft.) to B.P. 6, thence by a cut line on a bearing of 287° 30' for a distance of 990 chains (65,340 ft.) to B.P. 31, passing through Boundary Pillars 7 to 30; thence by a cut line on a bearing of 330° for a distance of 960 chains (63,228 ft.) to B.P. 51, passing through B.P.s 32 to 50; thence by a cut line on a bearing of 270° for a distance of 300 chains (19,767 ft.) to B.P. 59, passing through B.P.s 52 to 58, thence by a cut line on a bearing of 0° for a distance of 880 chains (57,800 ft.) to River Sene, Boundary Pillar 81, passing through B.P.s 60 to 80; thence following the Sene to Lake Volta following a line one mile off-shore from low water level down to the mouth of Apepesu River; thence from the Apepesu River on a bearing of 274° for a distance of 163 chains (10,700 ft.) to B.P. 85 passing through B.P.s 82 to 84; and on a bearing of 290º for a distance of 225 chains (14,800 ft.) to B.P. 91, passing through B.P.s 86 to 90, to the Ntoaboma River, thence down stream to the Konsupebi (Atonsupebi) to the Obosum River; thence following the Obosum up stream to the confluence of rivers Obosum and Nsoja which is the point of commencement.

BUI  NATIONAL PARK

BOUNDARY  DESCRIPTION

Boundary Pillar 1, the point of commencement lies on the west side of the Bamboi-Bole (N.T. 23) Road at a distance of 120 chains in a generally northwesterly direction from the junction of the Bamboi-Bole Road with the Halcrows Road from Banda-Nkwanta to Jema in the village of Banda-Nkwanta.

Thence on a cut line on a bearing of 23° for a distance of 450 chains to B.P. 2. Thence on a cut line on a bearing of 245° for a distance of 420 chains to B.P. 3 which lies on the northern bank of the Black Volta River. Crossing the river to B.P. 4. Thence in a generally north-easterly direction following the southern bank of the Seri River for a distance of 576 chains to the confluence of the Seri-Donjayiri Rivers. Thence a cut line on a bearing of 150° for a distance of 1.667 chains to B.P. 32. Thence on a cut line on a bearing of 149° for distance of 238 chains to B.P. 33. Thence along the west side of the Bamboi-Bole Road in a generally south-easterly direction for 290 chains to B.P. 34. Thence a cut line on a bearing of 208° for a distance of 100 chains to B.P. 35. SHAI HILLS GAME PRODUCTION RESERVE

BOUNDARY DESCRIPTION

All that piece or parcel of land described below, lying to the east of the main Tema-Akosombo motor road, near the village of Doryumu.

Commencing from Survey Department Pillar No. E.P. 15/654 situated on the Doryumu-Tekpanya foot path on a bearing of 136° for a distance of 53.85 chains to B.P. 1; thence on a bearing of 12° 30' along Tema-Akosombo motor road for a distance of 320 chains to B.P. 9, passing through B.P.s 2 to 9. Thence following a cut line on a bearing of 17° for a distance of 20 chains to B.P. 10, thence on a bearing of 360° for a distance of 80.80 chains to B.P. 12, passing through B.P. 11. Thence on a bearing of 80' 30' for a distance of 212.88 chains to B.P. 17, passing through B.P.s 13 to 16. Thence following a cut line on a bearing of 180° 30' for a distance of 592.50 chains to B.P. 32, passing through B.P.s 18 to 31. Thence a cut line on a bearing or 293° for a distance of 40 chains to B.P. 33. All that piece or parcel of land situated in the Ejura District in the Ashanti Region commencing from B.P. 1 which is a Pillar situated at the confluence of Dida and Afram Rivers (on the northern bank of the confluence). Thence on a cut line on a bearing of 32° for a distance of approximately 330 chains to B.P. 2, thence on a bearing of 259° for a distance of 45 chains to B.P. 3; thence on a bearing of 320° for a distance of 32.5 chains to B.P. 4, thence on a bearing of 21° for a distance of 47.5 chains to B.P. 5, thence on a bearing of 33° for a distance of 152.5 chains to B.P. 7; thence on a bearing of 140° for a distance of 37.5 chains to B P. 8; thence on a cut line on a bearing of 28° for 97.5 chains to B.P. 9. Thence on a bearing of 90° for a distance of 510 chains to B.P. 10; thence due south on a bearing of 180° for a distance of 420 chains to cut Berem-Amantin road at B.P. 11, thence along the Berem-Cheriase-Bong-Aframso road in south-westerly direction to Aframso No. 11 at B.P. 12; thence following the Afram River up stream in a north-westerly direction to B.P. 1 the point of commencement.
